Hampton High School Homeroom/Instructional Focus Resource Center

The purpose of the Homeroom/Instructional Focus Resource Center is to first explain the scope of work that should be taking place during homeroom.
During our HHS 2023 Summer Leadership Retreat, we discussed the challenge of overcoming instruction loss and student skill deficits that resulted during the 2020-2021 school year. Each teacher is charged with providing instruction that is standards aligned to the course and at an equal level of rigor as the tool in which the students will be assessed (CFA, Unit Assessment, EOC). Therefore the homeroom/instructional focus segment of the day will be geared primarily toward remediation and then enrichment where appropriate.
Lesson plans have been created and a google drive as been organized for teachers to easily access the work that has been developed for our scholars. Please click on the appropriate link below to access the Google drive for the designated homeroom that you teach.

The ABC's
of 2023-24
As we move forward into this school year we ask that you stick to what HHS calls the ABC's of our school structure.
"A" Nurtures Academics Academic:
"A" Nurtures Academic Excellence:
At HHS, our commitment to Academic Excellence is encapsulated by the letter "A." We wholeheartedly embrace the Standards-Based Classroom approach and encourage every educator to adhere to its principles.
To support our mission of fostering effective teaching and learning, we kindly request that you implement the following practices:
-
Three-Part Lesson Framework: Each lesson should encompass three essential parts—an engaging opening, an active work period, and a thoughtful closing. This structure ensures that our students receive a well-rounded and comprehensive educational experience.
-
Collaborative Planning: Your presence and preparation during collaborative planning sessions are crucial. Engaging in collaborative planning allows us to harness the collective expertise of our teaching community to benefit all students.
-
Lesson Plan Submission: Please submit your lesson plans by 4:00 pm each Friday. This practice ensures transparency, alignment with curriculum goals, and a cohesive learning experience for our students.
-
Gradebook Updates: Maintain a minimum weekly update of one grade in the Infinite Campus gradebook. This provides students and parents with ongoing feedback on their academic progress, supporting their learning journey.
By adhering to these practices, we collectively contribute to the academic growth and success of our students. Your dedication to implementing these strategies sets a powerful example of excellence in teaching and learning.
"B" Blossoms into Positive Behavior:
At our school, fostering a positive school culture is paramount, and "B" stands for Behavior—an integral part of our shared values. We encourage everyone to play a pivotal role in maintaining a positive atmosphere.
To uphold the standards set by our administrative team and promote a harmonious learning environment, we kindly request your support in the following ways:
-
Start Your Class Promptly: Commence each period promptly by closing your door at the sound of the bell. This helps instill a sense of structure and punctuality among our students.
-
Tardiness: Students arriving after the bell should be directed to submit a Tardy Kiosk or Late Bus pass. This ensures accountability for their punctuality.
-
Restroom Visits: When students need to visit the restroom, kindly permit one student at a time. It's important to ensure that each student scans the QR code using their phone or Chromebook camera and is provided with an HHS-issued blue Restroom pass. Please refrain from allowing students to exit in groups or pairs, as this helps maintain order and safety.
-
Communication: We value open lines of communication with parents. Staying in touch with them regarding student progress and behavior is essential for a collaborative and supportive educational community. The HHS Internal Discipline Form is available when necessary to document and address behavior concerns.
-
Cell Phone Policy: To minimize distractions and create an optimal learning environment, we kindly request that cell phones not be permitted in the classroom.
By adhering to these guidelines, we collectively contribute to a school culture characterized by respect, responsibility, and positivity. Remember that your commitment to these principles sets a powerful example for our students and helps create an environment where everyone can thrive.

"C" Celebrates Community Through Consistency:
At our school, we believe in the power of consistency to build a strong sense of community and maintain high morale. "C" represents Consistency in our approach to teaching and learning. It's the cornerstone of our success.
As educators, being reliably steady is a shared commitment. We encourage everyone to follow and embrace our school's norms and values each and every day. This includes starting your lessons on time as a daily practice and insisting that students scan the QR code (which helps our administrators stay informed about student movements in the hallways). By being consistent, we create a sense of predictability and reliability that benefits us all.
To ensure a cohesive and safe environment throughout the school day, we've established a duty roster that places an adult presence all around the school, particularly during student transitions and lunch. We kindly ask that you faithfully fulfill your assigned duty post every day. Additionally, we encourage you to be present at your classroom door during class transitions, fostering a smooth and efficient learning experience.
Let's remember that during the FIRST 10 MINUTES and the LAST 10 minutes of a class, it's essential to minimize hallway traffic to maintain an optimal learning atmosphere.
Both parents and students closely follow their child's progress, so it's important to be consistent in grading. We kindly request that you post a minimum of one grade in the grade book each week.
Know that we are here to support you as you support our students. Our administrative team is dedicated to ensuring your success in the classroom, and we value the consistency you bring to our educational community.
Consistency isn't just a concept; it's the heartbeat of our school. The tone we set during these early months will reverberate throughout the semester and into spring, shaping our positive and collaborative community.

Reporting an Absence
Inevitably there will be times in which we will not be able to report to work. This section communicates the actions that we ask each employee to take in the event she/he can not
report for work.
All absences (sick, personal, jury duty, or professional) and whether for a partial or full day, must be recorded on a Hampton High Digital Leave Slip (HHDLS). Not following the procedures below for your absence may result in your leave not being approved and/or being counted as leave without pay.
It is our local school attendance goal that no employee miss more than 9 days of work.
